U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens are eligible. ### Other than sabbatical salary replacement, what types of projects typically receive funding? expand\_more Fellowships may be used for a wide variety of projects; examples include publication of research, enhancement of sabbaticals, travel to libraries or collections, reasonable payment of student research assistants, dramatic productions, excavation expenses, or cost of research materials ([note funding restrictions](/faq/are-there-restrictions-how-fellowship-funds-can-be-used)). Note that the budget and any bibliography you would like to include can be thought of as separate from the proposal. ### Can my recommender submit his or her letter in a language other than English? expand\_more Yes. Letters written in French, German, or Italian will be accepted. Can I apply for sabbatical enhancement for one semester while taking an unpaid semester from my institution? expand\_more Yes, but note the [restrictions on funding usage](/faq/are-there-restrictions-how-fellowship-funds-can-be-used). ### My colleague and I would like to apply for a grant together. How do I indicate that we are submitting a joint application? expand\_more If you are applying for an application with one or more people, choose one person to be the main contact. Please upload individual CVs for each participant with your application, but submit one proposal and just three letters of recommendation for the project as a whole. In the case of archaeological investigations, note that a project has a three-year limit regardless of who applies for it. ### I do not understand how to submit the application online. Can I mail it in? expand\_more No. Applications, including letters of recommendation, must be submitted electronically via Interfolio. Interfolio staff are available to help you through the process. How do I know I submitted my documents correctly? expand\_more Applicants should receive emails from Interfolio immediately upon submission. Check your spam folder, and then check that your application was fully submitted. Note that either three letters of recommendation or three recommendation requests must be attached to your application before it can be submitted.
